Surgical Tech National Test CERTIFICATIONS | CST (NBSTSA), TS-C (NCCT)

Technologists prepare patients and all necessary instruments for surgery in the operating room, assisting with Surgical Tech Certification. Preparing operating rooms for surgery includes sterilizing and preparing the equipment for surgery, preparing patients for surgery by washing and disinfecting the incision sites, passing instruments to the surgeons as they work, ensuring there are no foreign objects in the patient after surgery, and keeping the operating room sterile to prevent infection.

Surgical Tech National Test alongside surgeons and nurses to provide patient care. An assistant who helps the surgeon suction or sews wounds may also perform this work. A surgical technologist assistant typically has several years' experience working in the surgical field. They have also completed an accredited assistant program and passed an examination so they are eligible to work as a licensed Surgical Tech Certifying Exam. First assistants and Surgical Tech National Test are certified by the same organization: the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).

National Exam For Surgical Technologist Certification – TECH IN SURGERY – CERTIFIED (TS-C)

By offering the TS-C credential, the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) intends to provide a path to certification for medical technologists already employed in the field.

There is an overall pass rate of 73 percent for the exam. Education, experience, and military education and experience are three options for eligibility to take the NCCT. Below you will find a detailed description of Surgical Tech Certification for each route.

Education eligibility test-takers passed the exam with an 81 percent pass rate. A 97 percent and 100 percent pass rate was achieved for those taking the test based on military experience and eligibility. (Please note that there are fewer applicants who seek to become military eligible than those who seek experience or education eligibility can get Surgical Tech Certification.

A similar amount of unscored questions are included in the test, similar to the NBSTSA examination. Multiple choice questions are asked during the four-hour test. NCCT provides a detailed test plan and a candidate handbook to help applicants prepare.

STEPS TO BECOMING A SURGICAL TECHNOLOGIST

An aspiring surgical technologist usually has to study for 12 to 24 months (after graduating from high school). An associate's degree is often the academic requirement for practicing surgical technologists. Many surgical technology degree programs provide some hands-on experience as part of their degree completion requirements. Two-year Surgical Tech Certifying Exam programs are a good base for a career in the field.

In Raymond, Mississippi, there is a college that is accredited by National Exam For Surgical Technologist Certification called Hinds Community College (HCC). HCC or another educational institution must provide prerequisite coursework in anatomy and physiology, English composition, algebra, and humanities for students interested in this program. Three semesters are required to complete this program, which begins in August every year.

The basic steps to becoming a surgical technician are almost the same no matter what path a student takes.
